Riding for SMILES

Back
At Whaley, we have a great partnership with Coloured Cob Equestrian Centre in Creswell. Each week, we take groups of children to engage in Equine therapy.

Animals are amazing and they help children in so many ways....this is proven as well by Murphy, our school dog!

Being around animals:
  • reduces stress and anxiety;
  • calms and relaxes;
  • builds confidence;
  • increases self-esteem;
  • can provide a sense of achievement and accomplishment;
  • teaches companion and care;
  • provides purpose;
  • provides a completely non-judgemental companion;
  • improves mental health and well-being.

We have been working with the centre for around 3 years and so many of our children have benefited from these sessions. They have given our most disadvantaged children experiences they would never ordinarily have; they have provided comfort when children have been at their most vulnerable; they provide escapism and a sense of release when it is most needed and they have turned even our most shy and reserved children into the most amazing, confident individuals.

Animals really do have super healing powers and ......WE LOVE THEM!
