Principal's welcome
Welcome to Whaley Thorns Primary School. A caring, purposeful and thriving learning environment where people mean everything. Our school moto is inclusive of our entire school community and a place where ‘Everyone is Different, Everyone is Special.'
My vision - my “WHY” - is straight forward: Every single child deserves a first rate education that is enriched with experiences that stay with them for life. This includes pupils with SEN, EAL and behavioural barriers, however complex these may be. It matters to me that our children leave school secondary-ready, not only with strong academic foundations, but also knowing themselves and knowing what their unique strengths, skills and attributes are. I want all of our children to be able to communicate, interact and read confidently so that they are ready for their next chapter in education. I want the self- esteem of all children to soar as they talk about what makes them special and what makes them different. My way of working is very simple. The pupils always come first. Every decision I make will be made in their best interests. Always. I will work closely with parents and staff to ensure that pupils receive their full curriculum entitlement, enriched by an immersive approach to Reading as the bedrock of the entire curriculum. I encourage parents to come and share their thoughts and feelings as parental engagement in our school is one of its greatest strengths. After all, parents know their children best. As a school, we have many strengths, in particular PSHE, pupil voice, pupil aspirations via the World of Work agenda and the Kindness Curriculum. I am of the firm belief that pupils are ready to learn best when they are happy and healthy and so am committed to a curriculum that prioritises physical and emotional wellbeing and am a strong advocate of pupils being active outside. I am unapologetically passionate about my insistence that pupils receive high quality teaching and learning day in, day out, underpinned by thoughtful resourcing, careful planning and focused intervention. We are blessed to work in a beautiful school with ample school grounds and amazing facilities. But it is our children, staff and community that really sets us apart.
