Welcome to Year 1 and 2
Our topic this term is: ‘Who are our local heroes?’
The children will investigate their local heroes using pictures, artefacts and documents, and will also have the chance to meet a local hero!
Word processing skills will be developed in ICT and the children will use a word processing program to present their findings, which will hopefully be displayed in our class museum at the end of term!
They will also learn about other well-known heroes, such as the famous explorer Captain Scott, and will design and make a snow mobile for a modern-day polar explorer.
In literacy, we will be reading traditional stories, such as ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. The children will spend some time comparing different versions of the same story and learning about the features of a traditional story. They will act out stories in drama and have a go at writing and reading their own versions.
In P4C, the children will consider what is needed for a traditional story and discuss whether they agree with the different story endings.
In numeracy, we will be learning about multiplication, addition, subtraction, money, fractions and time.
The science topic is based on everyday materials, plants and animals.
We are very lucky to have two PE coaches work with us this term. Ms Smith will be teaching Gymnastics and using the large apparatus, and George from Five 60 will be teaching games.
Looking forward to an exciting term!
